President’s Report
The end of term naturally creates an opportunity for thought and reflection. We hope that you hold a great sense of satisfaction and achievement in leading your teams or school community through the peak of winter, dynamics and busyness of term 3. The shift in to term 4 always brings a beautiful blend of energy and emotions; some students will find that ‘a-ha’ moment when a concept really clicks, some will be navigating the emotions of a transition to a new school or workforce, and for all students and staff, it will mark the final quarter of doing this year’s journey together as a team. For those that follow winter sport, we hope that everything falls in to place for your favourite team in their ‘final quarter’. I’m just preparing myself for 2028, with 200,000 other Tasmanian AFL Club members as we wait for the Devils to take to the park for the first time!
ACEL Awards
It was a privilege to attend the recent ACEL Tasmania Branch Awards with TPA Vice President Ted Barrance, with a number of public education colleagues recognised for their outstanding services to education from Montello Primary, Jordan River Senior Campus, Hobart City High, Hobart College and Trevallyn Primary School. TPA member and Hobart City High principal Britany Roestenburg delivered a highly engaging address to attendees, highlighting the complexity and joy of educational leadership and her personal reflections along the way in school and system leadership responsibilities across three states and territories.
ACU SCHOOL LEADER HEALTH & WELLBEING SURVEY
Recently, we sent an email regarding the ACU School Leader Health and Wellbeing Survey.
This is the 14th year this survey has been conducted and the data has been used extensively by TPA, AGPPA and APPA, to advocate in the areas of school leader health and wellbeing, resourcing, workload and work-related demands and expectations. Data from this survey will be made available early in 2025. The survey can be completed by principals and assistant principals.
Your TPA Executive strongly request that you set some time aside to complete the survey before the end of the term.
TPA State Executive Meeting
Last Friday, our statewide executive were able to meet in Campbell Town and progress our work against our three sets of key practices of Support & Care, Lead & Develop and Consult & Advocate. A number of major themes were discussed including; managing conflicts of interest, feedback on safeguarding processes, budget requests, and supporting members to access national professional learning. With the release of the discussion paper for the Independent Education Review earlier that day, we were able to spend a considerable amount of time commencing a draft response on behalf of our members. We’d strongly encourage members to engage in any opportunities to contribute the broader review chaired by Vicki Bayliss.
Lead the Way – PL Day for AST & AP’s
It was an absolute delight to spend time with 75 of our school leaders at our first middle leaders statewide PL day. A special thank you to the senior choir from Lansdowne Crescent Primary and to our presenters that made themselves available to add value to the collective leadership of our education system.
We look forward to unpacking the post-PL survey to assist us with future planning – Congratulations to Angela Zonno (Hobart College) who was randomly selected to receive a free registration to our annual Tasmanian Educational Leaders Conference.

The Australian Principal Health & Wellbeing Survey
We need your voice to tell the world what is happening to Australian School Leaders!
The Australian Principal Health & Wellbeing Survey is a confidential survey, independent of all employer groups, professional associations and unions. First, you will be able to review your job-related personal health and wellbeing, with an individualised report returned automatically upon completion. Second, global results will build a holistic picture of the state of school leader health and wellbeing. The results provide a system-level report with recommendations for future actions.
This research has significant impact in the diagnostic feedback given to school principals, the evaluation of existing policy initiatives, and the consultation with state departments leading to important new policy initiatives. This year, we have updated the design and layout of our survey and personal report access. If you have taken the survey before, check your email or new participants can register at Health & Wellbeing (healthandwellbeing.org).
I hope you are well and that your power is all restored and working again!

Case study: Campania District School
Campania District School engaged our Hobart team to perform an internal repaint to their office building, including admin areas and the library, during the Summer holiday break.
The school's principal was interested in a fresh colour scheme that would help restore the interior of the office building. Our operations team dropped off colour samples to assist with the decision-making process. The school identified Dulux's Moorland for timber panels and Lexicon Half for the walls and ceilings.
We delivered the full internal repaint of walls and ceilings within a tight one-week timeframe. We performed minor touch-ups throughout the building, however the library required additional attention. The walls were in poor condition, and window frames had accrued moisture damage, which needed rectification before repainting.
The repaint was executed on time and within budget, with the principal endorsing our works at sign-off.
Schools we have partnered with:
- Campania District School
- Newstead Christian School
- Risdon Vale Primary School
- Illawarra Primary School
- Austins Ferry Primary School
